Kia Sonet Pros And Cons- Does This Car Really Fits In The Segment?

Kia Motors had an amazing start in the Indian market with the launch of their first car, the Kia Seltos. Just like its elder sibling, the Kia Sonet too is a high selling for the brand, and here a few Kia Sonet pros and cons that you should definitely check out.

Being one of the most top-selling sub-compact SUVs the Kia Sonet has made its place in the Indian market, but that doesn’t mean the car is better in each and every aspect. The vehicle rivals the cars like Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, etc. Here are the top 10 Kia Sonet pros and cons that you should definitely check out.

Pros

1. Decent Ground Clearance and Boot Space

As you all know the Kia Sonet is based on Hyundai Venue and has many things in common. But in terms of boot space and ground clearance, the Kia Sonet is better than the Venue. Sonet has a ground clearance of 205mm and a boot capacity of 392 liters. These digits definitely make the Sonet look a bit bigger than the Venue.

2. Pocket-Friendly Diesel AT

The only one in the segment, yes the Kia Sonet is the only one in the segment to offer a proper diesel automatic option. Its powertrain options are taken from Kia Seltos and can be seen in Hyundai vehicles as well. The auto-diesel combo of the Kia Sonet is capable enough to churn out 115PS and 250 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. All the other cars in the competition offer AMTs.

3. A Box Full Of Features

Being offered at this price tag the Kia Sonet has a lot to offer in terms of features and looks. You can see a lot of features from the Kia Seltos in the Kia Sonet. The touchscreen infotainment system in this car is the biggest in the segment. Talking furthermore, the car gets an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging with cooling, smart air purifier, rear AC vents, BOSE sound system, cruise control, and a lot more in the box. It’s definitely a tough competition for other cars in the segment.

4. Great Options in Powertrains

You will see a great range of powertrain options with the Kia Sonet and all the engines are definitely frugal. The base engine is the only one that comes with a 5-speed manual and is for those who are more into practicality and value for money. On the other hand, other engines come with gearbox options. While the 1.0-litre petrol provides you with an amazing performance with decent fuel efficiency, it is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that is considered to be one of the best in the segment.

Cons

1. Normal Ride Quality

Blame here is definitely taken by the stiff suspension of the Kia Sonet. On another hand, if we talk about its sibling the Hyundai Venue, its ride is definitely comfortable than the Sonet. The stiffer suspension does improve its driving dynamics but if you are someone who prefers comfort over driving experience, then you should check out the Nexon or the XUV300.

2. GT Line Is Priced Higher

GT is the top variant line of the Kia Sonet and is definitely priced higher than its competitor like the Hyundai Venue. However, the base variant of the Kia Sonet is priced lower than that of the Hyundai Venue. On the other hand, the top variant that is the 1.0-litre iMT GTX+ of the Kia Sonet is more expensive than Ford EcoSport 1.5 AT.

3.Limited Seating Space

This car is a sub-compact SUV but still not that great when it comes to rear space. The car lacks space and the rear legroom is not that impressive. If space is what you need in your car then you should rather go for other cars like the XUV3000 or the Magnite.

4. Missing Some Important Features

Kia Sonet is definitely a feature-rich car but it does miss some important features from the box. The car does not get the option of 60:40 split rear seats, not even in the top variants. You can only tilt the steering wheel of the car and is not available with telescopic adjustment. Kia could have added these features to make it much more interesting.
