The new Mahindra XUV 500 is expected to be launched soon in the Indian market. The car will compete against the new Safari and the Hector Plus and will be offered with petrol as well as diesel powertrain options.

It is no secret to anyone that the brand is developing and testing the new XUV 500 for a long time now and a production-ready test mule was recently spied testing on the Mumbai-Pune expressway while driving at high speed. For starters, the new XUV 500 will be a completely new product and will be underpinned by a new platform that was co-developed with Ford by the brand. Powering the new XUV 500 will be new BS6 compliant diesel and petrol engines which are also powering the new Thar. Just like before, the XUV 500 will continue to offer automatic as well as manual transmission options in addition to an optional 4X4 drivetrain. The exterior looks of the car too will be revised to give it a fresh appeal.

On the interiors, the XUV 500 is expected to come in two seating configurations which will include a 6-seat layout as well 7-layout option. The dashboard layout too will be new and will incorporate a large touchscreen system and automatic climate control. The higher variants of the car will get a number of additional airbags while the lower airbags are expected to come with dual front airbags as standard. The seats at the front will get electric adjust while the seat ventilation too may be offered. The car will also come with a large panoramic sunroof.
