Kia, the Korean automaker, will launch the eagerly awaited Sonet compact SUV in the nation in September-October 2020. It will straightforwardly compete against the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and cars in the segment. In view of the Hyundai Venue’s foundation, the Sonet will come in 3 engine alternatives – a 1.2L petrol, a 1.5L turbo-diesel, and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol. To deal with the stiff competition in the segment, Toyota will present the re-badged form of the Maruti Brezza in India during the festive season. Supposed to be called Toyota Urban Cruiser, this mini-SUV will get some design changes which will differentiate it from the Brezza. It will have Toyota’s family front look and redesigned tail-lights. However, the general profile will continue to be similar to that of the Brezza.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that also powers the Brezza. The same engine churns out 104 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque in the MS Brezza. Transmission options incorporate a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed AT. The Toyota Urban Cruiser is expected to be priced around Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be a direct rival to the Brezza, Venue and the EcoSport.
