2020 New Honda City Launch Delayed; Was Expected To Be Launched In April

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the new Honda City is likely to be pushed to a later date.

The Fifth-Gen 2020 Honda City was all set to be showcased in India on 16th March. However, Honda Cars India Ltd had to postpone the event due to the COVID-19 scare. Due to the extension of the current lock down throughout the country, the New Honda City Launch Delayed.

While Honda was yet to officially announce the launch date of the new City, it was expected that the car was scheduled to be launched in April. With the production of new vehicles being suspended due to the lockdown, the City could now be launched in the coming next few months.

Just like other manufacturers, Honda too confirmed that it has temporarily halted operations at both its manufacturing units till 31st March. The production is now likely to stat only after the Government instructions.

The India-Spec Honda City will closely resemble the Thailand version. However, a number of cosmetic and mechanical changes are reserved for the India-specific City. The India bound City will not just be longer and bigger in dimensions but will have slightly higher ground clearance in addition to the changes done in its powertrain.

The new City is expected to be powered by a BS6 complaint 1.5-Litre petrol engine which will be producing 119 hp. This petrol engine will be mated to a 5-speed MT gearbox and a CVT automatic gearbox. The second engine option includes a BS6 complaint 1.5-litre diesel engine, which also powers the Honda Amaze. This engine churns out 100 hp and is expected to be mated to a 6-speed MT and a CVT automatic gearbox.

The new City, in addition to all this, also gets refreshed interiors with a newly designed premium dashboard layout. In India, the City is expected to be offered with all the bells and whistles like full LED lighting, a sunroof and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The 2020 Fifth-Gen Honda City will compete neck-to-neck with the upcoming Hyundai Verna Facelift, Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and the VW Vento.
